Clinical Management of Ectopic Pregnancy with Rudimentary Horn: A Case Study Analysis from NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences
Abstract
Purpose: This study presents a comprehensive analysis of a rare case of twin ectopic pregnancy in a left rudimentary horn, focusing on diagnostic challenges, surgical management, and clinical outcomes. The research aims to contribute to the understanding of complex ectopic pregnancy presentations and their optimal management strategies.
Methods: A detailed case study analysis was conducted of a 24-year-old G2P1L1 patient presenting with twin ectopic pregnancy in a communicating left rudimentary horn. The case involved emergency surgical intervention, histopathological examination, and comprehensive postoperative management.
Results: The patient underwent successful left salpingectomy with left rudimentary horn excision. Ultrasonography revealed twin gestational sacs (8 weeks and 7+4 weeks) with no cardiac activity. Surgical intervention prevented life-threatening complications, and the patient recovered well with appropriate postoperative care.
Conclusions: This case highlights the importance of early recognition of atypical ectopic pregnancy presentations and the need for prompt surgical intervention. The successful management demonstrates the effectiveness of laparoscopy-converted-to-laparotomy approach in complex cases.
